What People Are Saying About Alex
If you’re considering a coach, stop looking, just call Alex.
Alex and I worked together for 7 months leading up to my first Half IM.
He works you hard but he tailors the program to your needs.
I’m a dad and I travel for work. He made sure I prioritized what needed to be prioritized to be ready for my race.
I also used Alex for a couple of additional services including swim and running technique. I can’t understate how important that was to my performance. My swim stroke became way more efficient, critical for a 1.2 mile swim.
His feedback on my running reduced a great deal of pressure on my knees that was starting to grow as the distance picked up.
Unfortunately, I had to see him for PT due to an unrelated injury that kept me out of the pool for two months.
He adjusted my training regimen and then helped me ease back into swimming at distance.
Finally, and I can’t underscore this enough, his race day prep was exactly what I needed to perform MY best race. We spent an hour talking through how to approach each discipline, what to focus on during transitions and how to keep properly fueled and maintain the right target HR through each phase.
Alex and I happened to be in the same race (and he is way faster than me) and he was waiting outside transition and at the finish line to cheer me on. I’m looking forward to working with Alex again!
My daughter saw two orthopedic providers and completed 4 months of in-person physical therapy for what was diagnosed as an overuse/impingement issue with her shoulder.
Per the in-person physical therapist’s recommendation, my daughter even stopped swimming for 8 weeks. All to no avail. My mama-bear, middle of the night fretting had me awake and scrolling instagram a few weeks later.
Up popped Alex Ewart’s @theswimmingpt account. Feeling desperate, I DM’d him. Fast forward 3 months and my daughter is pain-free and back to club swimming. Spoiler alert: it wasn’t her shoulder! And Alex picked that up almost immediately during our virtual appointment!
Admittedly, I was hesitant to reach out to somebody on instagram…but I was also desperate for answers. We not only got answers, but also complete resolution of her symptoms. I would whole-heartedly recommend Alex to my friends and family.
Alex is extremely thoughtful and dedicated to planning and follow through for his clients. Keeping the goal in mind, he’s structured a realistic plan to reach my daughter’s goals. We can’t recommend Alex enough, extremely experienced with his background of so many years of swim coaching and D1 swimming at BU. The addition of his Doctorate in Physical Therapy has just catapulted his knowledge of the swimmer and how to keep them healthy, and optimize their performance.
After swimming competitively for over a decade growing up, I came back to swimming in my mid-forties (a 25+ year break).
I started slowly ramping up time, intensity, and yardage, but kept injuring my shoulders. This was new to me, I had never had any shoulder injuries as a younger swimmer, even when swimming 10+ hours per week at high intensities.
I visited a sports medicine doctor, but the only tool they could offer me was a cortisone shot. This didn’t seem like the right solution.
My pain was intermittent, only when swimming, and tended to move around. Next, I tried physical therapy (with a non-swimmer), who had me doing exercises with bands. But after several months, my capacity to swim hadn’t increased and I wasn’t really seeing any progress.
When I found Alex online, I could barely swim 3 days per week, and I couldn’t add weight training into the mix because of my need for so many recovery days. I initially started following some of the suggestions/exercises he had posted on his Instagram page. These were pretty helpful right away.
I had less pain with swimming and was able to increase my swimming consistently to three days per week. I recognized that I needed to get stronger, but still had trouble adding weight lifting.
So, I eventually contacted Alex to work with him on a specific program tailored to me. Alex helped me include both swimming and weight training into a weekly schedule in a sustainable way. I no longer have any pain while swimming. I can even double up on swimming and weights once a week and swim four days (and probably more, if time allowed!). I can train more consistently, since I don’t have to keep taking so many days off for recovery from injury, and that consistency has finally allowed me to see strength and speed gains. Thank you, Alex!
